New company uses tobacco to fight cancer

By Steve LeBeau

Tobacco is widely known to cause cancer — when rolled into a cigarette and smoked. But advances in genetic sequencing has allowed a new Minnesota company to use the plant to generate an anti-cancer vaccine. MNPHARM grows tobacco indoors, and when the plants are mature, they are infected. The tobacco plants responds by manufacturing a protein-based anticancer vaccine. Cyndy Brucato of Greater MSP Business recently talked with MNPHARM’s Founder and CEO Dave Roeser, who explained how their company has grown.

Watch Greater MSP's video here, and find out how the tobacco-generated vaccine fights cancer, without actually killing the cancer cells.
